Student midwives ’ views of caseloading : the BUMP study

چکیده
If the needs of future midwifery practitioners are to be met it is essential that health-care education is evaluated to ensure that learning opportunities are relevant, dynamic and aligned with professional policy recommendations. In 2004, midwifery lecturers from Bournemouth University (BU) carried out an evaluation of four specific elements of the student practice and education experience within the pre-registration, undergraduate midwifery programme. These were: student midwife caseloading; enquiry-based learning; student self-assessment; and story sharing. This article reports on the qualitative element exploring the experiences of student midwives carrying a personal caseload of women, as part of the Bournemouth University Midwifery Programme (BUMP) action research study.
